On December 16, 2022, the company BAE Systems announced a joint procurement, worth $760 million, is in support of Arctic operations for the Collaborative All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) program.

A joint acquisition by Sweden, Germany, and the United Kingdom will see the delivery of 436 BvS10 military vehicles, beginning in 2024. The distribution of these vehicles includes 236 BvS10s for the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV), 140 for the German Federal Ministry of Defence (BAAINBw), and 60 for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). These vehicles, based on the most recent BvS10 model utilized by Sweden, will offer a range of capabilities, such as troop transport, logistics, medical evacuation, recovery, and command and control.

In collaboration with Sweden, as the lead project partner, an additional 227 vehicles will be procured as part of the "Collaborative All Terrain Vehicle (CATV)" project. The cost is estimated at around 919 million euros. The first units are expected to be delivered from November 2025, with all vehicles scheduled for completion by 2030. The acquisition will be financed through a special fund for the German Army (Bundeswehr).

CATVs serve to provide protected transport for personnel and materials, primarily focusing on weapons, ammunition, supplies, and specialized equipment. They ensure tactical mobility in difficult-to-traverse, intersected, and tight terrains, including mountainous regions and extreme climate conditions. CATVs are deployed in the areas of national and alliance defense, national crisis intervention, worldwide special operations led by Special Forces Command, and international crisis and conflict prevention.

The vehicles will be procured through cooperation between Sweden, Germany, and the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland. This collaboration is based on an international agreement, also known as a Memorandum of Understanding, regarding multinational cooperation on all-terrain vehicles dated March 5, 2020.

The BvS10 is a highly versatile, all-terrain armored vehicle designed to operate in challenging environments and perform a variety of military tasks. Developed by BAE Systems Hägglunds, the BvS10 is equipped to handle extreme climates and difficult terrains, including mountainous regions, swamps, and snow.

The BvS10 consists of two tracked vehicles coupled together by a special articulation mechanism. The front vehicle is used as a driver unit with 2.5 m2 of internal space while the rear vehicle has 10 m2 of cargo space that can be used to carry military personnel or combat equipment.

In recent years, BAE Systems has modernized the BvS10 with the Mk 2 version. The BvS10 Mk2 is an upgraded version of the BvS10 all-terrain armored vehicle designed by BAE Systems Hägglunds. This modernized variant builds on the strengths of the original BvS10 while incorporating several improvements and advanced features.

The BvS10 Mk2, an advanced all-terrain armored vehicle, showcases a variety of impressive features. With enhanced protection against ballistic threats, mines, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), it ensures the safety of occupants in hostile environments. The Mk2 also boasts a greater payload capacity compared to its predecessor, enabling it to carry more personnel, weapons, ammunition, supplies, and specialized equipment.

Mobility is another key advantage of the BvS10 Mk2, as its upgraded powertrain and suspension system provide superior maneuverability across diverse terrains, such as snow, mud, swamps, and mountainous regions. In addition, the Mk2 variant is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic systems and communication equipment, resulting in improved situational awareness, seamless interoperability with other systems, and enhanced mission effectiveness.

Like the original BvS10, the Mk2 version upholds a modular design, which permits various configurations to fulfill multiple roles. These roles include troop transport, logistics, medical evacuation, recovery, and command and control, making the BvS10 Mk2 a highly versatile asset for modern military forces.
