Global Specialised Vehicles GSV from South Africa launches Ghost street legal armored vehicle

Global Specialised Vehicles (GSV), a manufacturer of armoured vehicles in South Africa, is introducing a new vehicle that offers high levels of protection similar to a military-grade armoured personnel carrier (APC), while also being road-legal, making it ideal for use by commercial security companies to safeguard assets, secure cash in transit, and more. Production is commencing immediately at GSV's Germiston facilities, with plans to manufacture between five and ten vehicles per month. The armoured steel and glass materials used in the vehicle are supplied by certified and accredited suppliers.

The Ghost was developed in response to numerous requests from the public sector, which required superior vehicles that could be obtained and used by civilians. GSV believes that the Ghost is the sole vehicle in South Africa that offers both a high level of protection and full road legality (anyone who holds a Code 10 vehicle license is permitted to operate it). The Ghost is transportable in a standard 6-metre ISO shipping container, thanks to its size and weight. The vehicle's modular design allows for easy configuration changes and panel replacements with minimal effort.

Development of the Ghost has been self-financed, but demand is already high, with a range of clients, from mining to facility protection firms, placing multiple orders. Universities, municipalities, and the private security sector have all expressed interest, as have the police and military.

The baseline Ghost model comes with B6-level protection, but additional armour can be added according to the customer's needs. GSV is keeping costs low by using an Isuzu drivetrain, which also makes maintenance possible almost anywhere and ensures that spare parts are widely available. Diesel engines are available in 4×2, 4×4, manual, and automatic configurations, giving the 6-ton vehicle a top speed of 120 km/h and a range of 500 km, which can be doubled with an additional fuel tank. Optional accessories include run-flat tyres and a pepper spray deployment system.
