BRNO, Czech Republic, May 24, 2023 - In a bid to secure one of the largest defense contracts in the Czech Republic's recent history, BAE Systems showcased its CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) at the International Defence and Security Technologies Fair (IDET) 2023. The UK-based company is one of four contenders shortlisted by the Czech Ministry of Defense in its effort to replace the country's aging fleet of BVP-2s, a locally-produced version of the Soviet-made BMP-2 tracked armored IFV.

Back in December 2018, the Czech Ministry of Defense announced an ambitious military program to modernize its ground forces, which still heavily rely on Soviet-era military hardware. This major project includes the acquisition of new tracked armored IFVs to replace the old BVP-2 models. Four global defense companies, including BAE Systems, have been shortlisted, marking a critical phase in the process of upgrading the Czech armed forces.
BAE's CV90, a highly advanced, third-generation IFV, boasts superior armor protection, firepower, and mobility compared to the older BVP-2 models. The vehicle's cutting-edge communication systems and other advanced capabilities also align with the stringent requirements set by the Czech defense ministry.

"Our offer also includes a substantial involvement of the Czech defense industry in the production process, contributing to the local economy and technical expertise."

The CV90 is equipped with advanced fire control systems, including a day/night sight, laser rangefinder, and ballistic computer, ensuring high levels of accuracy and allowing for effective engagement of targets at long ranges.
