Russian army receives Tornado-G and Tornado-S MLRS multiple launch rocket systems

Motovilikhinskie Zavody enterprise delivered a batch of Tornado-G and Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to the Russian army, Rostec said. “The contractual commitments for the delivery of Tornado-G and Tornado-S MLRS have been fulfilled timely and in full volume. The high load switched the enterprise to three working shifts. The plant creates new jobs, increases wages, and re-equips facilities,” it said.

Rostec said MLRS production by the enterprise grew several times against the previous year and reached an unprecedented level in ten years.

122 mm Tornado-G MLRS strikes at troops, armor, artillery batteries, and command posts on open terrain. It surpasses Grad MLRS 2.5-3 times due to more powerful munitions. Modern communication systems and digital controls make it possible for Tornado-G to engage Orlan drones in reconnaissance, aiming, and fire adjustment. The MLRS can operate at air temperatures of -40° to +50°C and nearly 100 percent humidity.

Each has 12 guides that can fire salvos and solo 300mm missiles. The missile range is 120 km and the destruction area is 60 hectares. Tornado-S is to replace Smerch MLRS in artillery formations. Only several minutes are necessary to fire: it takes one minute to deploy the weapon system and change position to escape a retaliatory fire.
