The outfits were delivered, in the first place, to units making part of the District commander’s mobile reserve and accomplishing counter-terrorism tasks, he said. "The Ratnik gear has been tested in a number of counter-terrorism exercises involving the District’s forces and praised," Gordeyev said.

It was reported earlier that the St. Petersburg-based company Radioavionika had developed a new commander personal computer to use it as part of the Ratnik individual outfit.

The operational evaluation of the AK-12 and the A-545 assault rifles designed for fielding under the Ratnik program will be completed by the end of 2015.

The Ratnik gear may be also equipped with an identification friend-or-foe system in the form of special symbols that can be seen using Russian-made optics only.

The Russian Defense Ministry will receive 71,000 sets of the Ratnik ‘soldier of the future’ gear for 2014 and 2015.

The Ratnik gear is positioned as a ‘soldier of the future’ outfit. The set comprises about 40 items, including small arms, sighting and protection systems, communications, navigation and target designation equipment.

As it was reported earlier, the Russian Armed Forces are expected to receive no less than 50,000 outfits annually and the order for the Ratnik gear may be increased to 70,000 sets.
