A £2.5m package of non-lethal equipment including transport vehicles, body armour, communications and IT equipment will be gifted by the Ministry of Defence as part of our contribution to developing the JAF Quick Reaction Force (QRF).

Through gifting bespoke equipment and mentoring, we are helping to develop Jordan’s first fully-deployable command and control capability that will allow them to deploy units to their borders to counter the threat from ISIL.

Penny Mordaunt, Minister of State for Armed Forces, visited the QRF project during a visit to Jordan this weekend. She said:

"The spread of extremism and terrorism in the Middle East represents a threat to us all and Jordan is on the front line. I’ve seen first-hand how vital UK support is helping the Jordanian Armed Forces secure their borders from organisations such as ISIL. We are committed to the security of the Middle East and will continue to look at ways we can bolster our allies to build a more secure future for the region."

The UK enjoys a strong defence relationship with Jordan, providing a full spectrum of military assistance ranging from training courses in the UK and the deployment of short-term training teams in Jordan to a number of major exercises each year and an enduring programme of capacity building. Jordan is playing a key role in the global anti-ISIL coalition which is supporting the Iraqi government.
