Description

The ISDM Zemledeliye is a new mobile mine laying system produced and manufactured by the Russian defense industry based on an 8x8 KamAZ military truck platform. It was first showcased during the Army-2016 international military-technical forum. The world got its first glance at this vehicle in June 2020, at the Victory Parade held at the iconic Red Square in Moscow.

This system, designed for the Russian Ground Forces' engineering divisions, comprises two main elements: the mine launcher vehicle and its transport-loading counterpart. JSC NPO Splav (Tula) undertook the creation of the ISDM remote mining system, also known as Agriculture-I, as per a state contract, Ministry of Defense of Russia No. N/3/4/74-2014-DGOZ, signed on December 30, 2013. Notably, the development took longer than initially anticipated.

The public was provided information about the ISDM for the first time during the Army-2016 international military-technical forum. The Russian armed forces have since deployed the ISDM Zemledeliye in Ukraine to conduct operations and repel the Ukrainian army's counteroffensive in June 2023.

Technical Data

Armament
At the core of the revolutionary ISDM Zemledeliye system are the 122mm tube launchers, which are mounted on the Kamaz 6560 military truck. The vehicle is outfitted with two pods, each containing 25 mine launcher tubes. These tubes are arranged in a single rectangular bank, with five layers of five tubes each. The launch vehicle accommodates 50 rockets, each of 122mm caliber and loaded with scatterable anti-personnel or anti-tank mines. This enables the ISDM Zemledeliye to rapidly mine an area equivalent to several football fields. The system boasts a firing range of 5 to 15 km, utilizing 122mm caliber missiles armed with either anti-tank or anti-personnel mines. For its self-defense, the truck is additionally fitted with three smoke grenade launchers on either side of a control cabin. This cabin is situated at the back of the crew cab, enhancing the system's protection measures.
Design and protection
The ISDM Zemledeliye is built on the KamAZ 6560 8x8 military truck's chassis, featuring an unarmored crew cabin at the front and the mine laying system positioned at the back. Conversely, the transloader vehicle is equipped with a reloading crane situated at the rear of the truck, which allows for quick and effective ammunition restocking.

Mobility
The ISDM Zemledeliye operates on the platform of the KamAZ 6560 8x8 chassis. Known for being a robust military truck, the KamAZ-6560 is one of KamAZ's most potent models. The truck initially introduced to the public in 2005, boasts a hefty payload capacity of up to 20,000 kg. The KamAZ-6560 military truck incorporates several automotive components from the KamAZ-6520 dump truck. It is equipped with the KamAZ-740.35-400 turbocharged diesel engine, generating a power of 400 hp. This engine complies with EURO II emission standards. An upgraded version of the engine, conforming to EURO III regulations, is also on offer. The engine is coupled to a German-made ZF 6HP 602 automatic gearbox. This truck is notable for its exceptional off-road mobility. It can reach a top road speed of 90 km/h and offers a maximum cruising range of 1,000 km.
Combat Equipment
The launch truck of the ISDM Zemledeliye system is outfitted with satellite navigation, a computer, and a weather station. These allow operators to fine-tune their parameters and consider the impact of weather conditions on missile trajectories. A distinctive feature of the ISDM Zemledeliye is its intelligent programming capability. It enables operators to customize the mines to target specific entities, such as armored vehicles or personnel, thereby greatly minimizing civilian casualties. Furthermore, the system integrates advanced sensors that identify friendly forces, efficiently avoiding unintended engagement with allied vehicles. These smart functionalities enhance safety and accuracy during mine deployment. The system's remotely controlled minelayer automatically sets the launch missions and self-destruction parameters for the mines and generates a map of the mined area post-deployment. All this data is relayed to higher command levels. In line with the second protocol of the Geneva Convention, each mine is equipped with programmable self-destructors. This ensures that the minefields are not permanent, but are deactivated after a set period without requiring human intervention.
