In a recent initiative to strengthen the Kyiv region's defense capabilities against Russian missile and drone threats, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration and AWT Bavaria collaborated to provide 21 Mitsubishi pickup trucks to fire brigades mobile land forces ZSU. The official announcement was made by the administration's press service on the Telegram platform.

Kyiv Regional Governor Ruslan Kravchenko and AWT Bavaria CEO Erik Berning met with military officials to orchestrate the transfer of the vehicles. According to information provided by the administration, these pickup trucks are specially intended for the mobile fire groups of the ZSU ground forces, which have the task of protecting the region from Russian air attacks.

Funding for these vehicles was made possible through a collaboration between a Ukrainian defense project and the UNITED24 platform, which is a government initiative aimed at raising funds for defense and humanitarian needs.

United24 is a Ukrainian government-run platform launched on May 5, 2022, to raise money for Ukraine in the Russo-Ukrainian War. The platform was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, and later launched by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The funds raised through United24 are distributed in three areas: defense and demining, humanitarian and medical assistance, and the reconstruction of Ukraine. All funds are transferred to the accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine and are assigned to relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Healthcare, and the Ministry of Infrastructure. The platform provides daily updates on the funds raised. As of May 2023, United24 had raised over US$325 million. The platform has also partnered with FC Shakhtar for the “Pitch in for Ukraine” initiative.

KOVA, another organization involved, said the vehicles will be essential for preparing air defense force crews to carry out combat missions. They will also contribute to the protection of vital infrastructure in the Kyiv region.
