A major reform is in store for the national air defense. Each air force and defense army will get a mobile reserve comprising an air defense regiment. They will be created from scratch and armed with Pantsir missile guns. The new regiments will defend strategic facilities and reinforce available air defense units, the Izvestia daily said.

The news about the MQ-9 Reaper drone downed by the Houthis over Yemen did not make headlines. The Houthis numerously demonstrated the ability to down adversary drones. A month ago, they downed an MQ-1 Predator drone, and in April, Saudi Arabia lost one of its Wing Loong drones purchased in China. The Houthis even downed fighter jets, the Izvestia daily writes.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has considerably complicated exams for antiaircraft units since 2019 due to arming regiments with S-300 and S-400 weapons and Pantsir-S close-range systems. Previously, each weapon fired at its own targets. Now they will act jointly to increase effectiveness. Control and target distribution systems built by the netcentric principle will synchronize the fire, the Izvestia daily writes.

SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) has expanded its research on security issues in the Horn of Africa region by launching a new series of publications investigating major questions for the future security and stability of the region. Notably, it highlights the increasing importance of geopolitical, commercial and military competition as the driver of foreign military deployments to the region.
