Polish Army to acquire sniper rifles

The Polish Ministry of Defence has announced a public tender, with a deadline on 5 November 2015, for the procurement of sniper rifles along with their dedicated day and night-vision optics, and specialized ammunition. The weapons will be used for anti-personnel and anti-material missions, up to 1,500 metres and 1,200 metres respectively.

The Polish Army will upgrade its fleet of Leopard 2 tanks, according to official’s statement at the country’s Media. Poland had acquired a total of 142 tanks. The first batch comprised of 124 Leopard 2A4 and the second of 14 Leopard 2A5. According to General Adam Duda, the Director of the MoD’s Procurement Directorate, the aim is to upgrade and bring all of them in the same configuration.

Trident Juncture exercise has kicked-off on 3 October to demonstrate NATO’s increased capabilities in joint modern warfare to meet present and future security challenges. Around 36,000 people, from 30 countries, 12 major international organization, aid agencies and other NGOs, will take part demonstrating the Alliance’s, EU’s and USA’s commitment and contribution to a comprehensive approach.

The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia and Lockheed Martin signed a contract for three TPS-77 Multi-Role Radars (MRR) for use in air surveillance and to complement radar assets already in place. “Purchase of “TPS-77” MRRs will mean a huge investment in the strengthening of defence capabilities of National Armed Forces and gives us the chance to act accordingly to modern threats facing all NATO countries,” emphasizes Minister of Defence of Latvia Raimonds Bergmanis.

The Czech military has placed a major order with Rheinmetall for the handheld Mithras illumination rocket. Through to November 2015, the Düsseldorf, Germany-based defence contractor will supply the tried-and-tested Czech armed forces with an initial shipment of tens of thousands of Mithras rockets. The order is worth around €720,000.

Greece and Israel have jointly carried out in mid-September an operational exercise that involved helicopters in conjunction with fighter aircraft. The Hellenic Army Aviation has deployed for the first time outside its borders since WW2, six Boeing AH-64A+/D Longbow Apache attack and Boeing CH-47D heavy helicopters.

The United States Air Force had deployed its Guardian Angels Weapons System personnel at Diyarbakir Air Base in Turkey. Combat rescue; pararescue; evasion, resistance and escape personnel, with HH-60G Pave Hawk and HC-130 platforms have arrived in support of the air operations against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
